Buying your Wedding Dress Online?
|
Buying wedding dresses online is an increasing trend. Whether it is
the lack of good bridal boutiques around you, the extensive selection
available online, or the ability to buy quality dresses at a discount,
buying online appeals to many brides-to-be.
Below are answers to some detailed answers to questions that you
may have when contemplating the decision to buy online.
What Should I Look for When Buying Online?
Research, research, research!
Using search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN will allow you to research anything from different
types of dresses that you may want to where the best place to purchase dresses may be. In fact, you may
have used one of these search engines to come across this website. We suggest that you use the Internet to
look at different dress makers, dress types, material types, and price ranges. This will help you get a better
perspective of what you are looking for when you start to look at WHERE to buy the dress rather than
searching aimlessly.
Once you have decided WHAT dress to buy it will make your decision of WHERE to buy the dress
infinitely easier. At this point you should begin looking at online boutiques to see if they carry the dresses
that you desire. The downside to buying online is that you will not be able to try the dress on prior to
ordering it so you must be sure that the style is going to work for you.
There are so many different online bridal boutiques available that is may
be hard to distinguish which is best. This goes back to research, research,
research. Some suggestions to selecting an online store are:
- Ask around and see if people have had good or bad experiences with an
online store.
- Look at online forums to determine past customer experiences.
- Look at the store's selection; do they have what you are looking for?
- Compare prices between online vendors.
- Compare return policies and shipping policies. Both of these can vary
significantly from one online store to another.
Most of all, make sure you go through an online vendor you trust based
on the research you have done. If you are worried about the quality or
the delivery date through an online dealer then you may want to rethink
your purchase. Remember, getting married will be one of the biggest
moments of your life and your dress is the centerpiece of your day.
How do I know what Size to Order?
|
One option would be to visit your local bridal boutique and try on dresses there to find out what size
would fit you, and the other option is to have a seamstress take your measurement for you.
Trying dresses on a nearby boutique is somewhat common, but probably not all that preferable to the
boutique themselves. Recently it has been reported that boutiques are removing the size tags out of sample
dresses to make it harder for brides-to-be to use their store to determine size. However, if this isn't the case
then it may be an option. The upside to visiting a boutique is that you can see different dress styles that
appeal to you while determining dress size at the same time.
Having a measurement done is probably the better option of the two. You may have to pay a fee to have a
fitting done a qualified person, which is suggested. The closer you are to the size of your wedding gown,
the cheaper your alterations may be in the long run.
Online Dress Sites
The House of Brides website offers a good selection of online
dress options. We have had a number of dresses come from
this site to our studio for alterations and have yet to hear of
any major issues.
While we don't "endorse" any online sites, below are a few that we have had experience with regarding
dress purchase and subsequent alterations. All logos are linked to the company's site for you.
The Bridal Online Store seems to be fairly legitimate. We have not had any experience
with them one way or another, but they do have reports and articles published on them
from reputable sources. They may be worth a look...
