Questions about having a Custom Wedding Dress Made
Below are some detailed answers regarding questions about having a custom wedding gown or bridesmaid
dress made at The Wedding Seamstress.
Will you knock off a known designer?
This is probably the question of choice for many of the brides that call us.
The answer is NO, but with conditions. When looking through some of
the dresses we have custom made you will see resemblances to well
known dress designers. We allow brides to pull inspiration from dress the
Pnina Tornai (right) inspired "The Rose". While our version is inspired, it
clearly lacks some of the key components that make a Pnina Tornai a
Pnina Tornai (most notably the lack of massive amounts of Swarovski
crystals). We try our hardest to respect the designers own designs while
still giving brides the latitude to have the dress of their dreams.
As with anything the answer varies, but custom dresses will generally cost more than your "average"
store bought wedding dress. Store bought wedding dresses are manufactured, and therefore they save
money buy making many many dresses just like yours, thus saving lots of money and making it
cheaper for you. When you buy a custom dress it is the only one like it.
Should I consider a custom dress?
Having your wedding gown custom made is not for everybody. Every bride thinks they know the
perfect dress for them until they get it on, and with a custom dress you do not get the opportunity to see
the dress on you until it has been made. Obviously, patience is the key to having a custom dress made. If
you are a patient person who wants a one of a kind dress made for them then having a custom wedding
dress made for you may be a good option. Even if this is the case we always recommend that you still
research dress types you like, including trying some on at the bridal stores. Who knows, you may find
the perfect dress for your big day while looking at the stores, if not then at least you will know what you
do and don't like about different dress types.
What should I expect with a custom dress?
With a custom dress you should expect a garment with very
good tailoring that matches the design originally agreed to. At
The Wedding Seamstress we offer free consultation for our
custom wedding gowns where you go through the following
process:
- Overview of what you are looking for in a gown
- Fabric options
- Color options
- Style options
- Design selection
- Pricing options
Once you have signed up to have a dress made with us you
should expect to return about 4 more times through the
process before finally picking the dress up.

Where do you get your fabric?
While we have had brides-to-be bring in their own fabric we prefer to use our own sources. We are able
to source fabric from all over the world, including very high end silks from Europe. Our ability to get
fabric is unmatched by any other dressmaker in the Front Range Area. We pride ourselves on creating
stunning wedding gowns, and the fabric you use is almost as important as the design itself.
Do you make bridesmaid dresses?
Of course! We are able to create bridesmaid dresses to compliment a wedding gown you have already
purchased, or even one that you are having made through us. The process is the same as having a
custom wedding gown made, including the free consultation to go over styles, fabrics and prices.
