wary of the seamstress or tailor that says they will do all alterations
for considerably less than what you have been quoted as you call
around. Remember, you absolutely need to TRUST your seamstress,
regardless if it is The Wedding Seamstress.
Can I Get a Quote Over the Phone?
This is a common question and the answer should be "NO" for any true seamstress. While, based on
your description of the dress, a seamstress can give you a ballpark figure there is no way to accurately
estimate the total cost of your alterations without physically seeing the dress. Matching manufacturer
hem lines, seeing the bead and lace layout, and understanding the number of layers the dress has are all
things the seamstress needs to see in order to give an accurate estimate. Remember, you are paying for a
service from an expert and that expert must be able to assess the job in order to accurately quote it. This
is why we offer FREE FITTINGS at The Wedding Seamstress. There is NEVER an obligation premiere
seamstress service that focuses  on wedding apparel.
When Should I Bring My Dress In?
Many websites suggest waiting until the month of your wedding, however, waiting until the month of
your wedding could result in a surcharge being applied (not with us), or even worse not being able to get
in. The best time to schedule your appointment for alterations is when you first get your dress. While we
do not charge a surcharge for short turn-around times nearly every other shop does. And while
seamstresses and tailors may not specifically spell out the surcharge, you will be paying it. Much of the
research done suggests that when dresses are brought in less than 2 weeks prior to the wedding date the
price is over double what it would normally be. The more time the seamstress has to work on your dress,
the better the results will be and the cheaper it will be. Three months in advance of the wedding is a
good rule of thumb.
Is there a rush fee if I am too close to the wedding date?
While most seamstresses, both locally and across the county, up to 200%
extra if the dress comes in within 2 weeks of While most seamstresses,
both locally and across the county, up needing completion; WE DO
NOT. These up charges essentially penalize brides and bridesmaids for
getting their dresses in late and we try to minimize the impact that
alterations cause, financially, for the wedding party. Our goal is to give
excellent service at an affordable price.

Is one seamstress better than another?
Of course this question is a matter of opinion, but in the eyes of The Wedding Seamstress there are very
significant differences between seamstresses. Some seamstresses and tailors are very good with standard
pant hems, working with jackets, and making pillow cases; but this does not mean they have spent the
time necessary to learn the various dress designers in the market. At The Wedding Seamstress we work
with such a wide array of dresses that nearly every major dress designer has a dress of theirs visit our
studio. For this reason we are clearly more able to understand the design of the dress and alter it to a
better fit than an seamstress or tailor that just sometimes does bridal alterations.
Why should I interview my seamstress?
Let's put this question in perspective... How many hours did you spend searching, exploring, researching,
and trying on dresses before you found "The One"? After all that work are you really willing to just drop
it off at the closest place with the lowest price? Don't you think the garment that you spent so much time
and money on deserves a little more than that? This is why at The Wedding to give you a price estimate
following the fitting where you can decide to use us or shop around (96% of people come back after
shopping around). The bottom line is that we believe our part in your wedding story is crucial, and you
should too!!!
